Anchorage Brewing Company

anchoragebrewing.company

Address: 148 W. 91st Ave., Anchorage AK 99515

907-677-2739

Mon -> Thurs 2-8pm // Fri 2-10pm // Sat 12-10pm // Sun 12-8pm

Do they offer flights: No

What I order: They are constantly brewing new and unique beers, so I never know what is going to be available until I get there. Hands down, though, their Team Cat is up there in my book.

Do they sell any non-alcoholic drinks: Negative. But Fire Island Rustic Bake Shop is right across the parking lot and they sell coffee, sparkling and bottled water (which you can bring into the brewery).

Do they offer food: Yes through Familia, but only Thurs-Sat, from 2 pm to 10 pm (or until they sell out). Familia’s delicious wood-fired fare is located inside ABC and they offer a rotating menu that changes weekly. They regularly sell out before ABC’s closing so if something on their menu catches your eye, I highly recommend getting there before 7 to secure a plate. Check out their Instagram page to here to see this weekend’s line up and thank me later. Their lobster rolls and whoopie pies were my fave!

Why I love this place: Because it’s damn delicious, that’s why. (Sorry for sounding snarky.) We live down the road from it and that may play a role in why we visit so frequently. But to be honest, if it wasn’t so good, I don’t think we’d come as often. We actually started meeting a group of friends from our church on Sunday afternoons and it’s been a “thing” that we’ve been doing for a while now. Every Sunday we get there around 1 with our lunch in tow and eat, drink and build deeper connections with our church family and friends. It’s pretty awesome. So if you’re out and about at ABC on Sunday afternoons and you happen to see us, come say hi. I might even buy you a pint.

Bear Tooth Grill

beartoothgrill.net

Address: 1230 W 27th Ave, Anchorage, AK 99503

907-276-4200

Mon -> Wed 11-9:30pm // Thurs -> Fri 11-10pm // Sat 10-10pm // Sun 10-9:30pm

Do they offer flights: No

What I order: Anything from Broken Tooth Brewing Co, Bear Tooth’s sister company’s brewery, like the Fairweather IPA or an Amalga G&T, a jalapeno margarita, a glass of rose or a Diet Coke, dammit. Just kidding. If I’m going to Bear Tooth, I’m ordering a drank and not a drink.

Do they sell any non-alcoholic drinks: Yes! Housemade root beer and cream soda, fountain and canned Coke products, and ice cream shakes.

Do they offer food: Oh my God, yes, they do and it’s fucking delicious. Check out their menu here.

Why I love this place: Disclaimer: This is not a brewery. I repeat. This is not a brewery. And Alaskans near and far are going to hate me for letting the cat out of the bag by sharing this with you but listen up: **As I whisper in your ear** Bear Tooth serves most of the Moose’s Tooth menu AND THEN SOME and you don’t have to wait 2+ hours for a table. Whew. There. I said it. This place has great pizza, salads, wraps and food with a southwest flare, as well as great drinks, great service, a great space AND a bag of chips. (No, seriously. They actually do sell tortilla chips). Bear Tooth is the real real deal. Moose’s Tooth is for tourists but Bear Tooth (also known by the locals as Bears Tooth) is for the locals.

Double Shovel Cider Co

doubleshovelciderco.square.site

Address: 502 W. 58th Ave., Unit C, Anchorage, AK 99518

907-562-1100

Mon -> Sat 12-8pm // Sun 12-8pm

Do they offer flights: YES

What I order: Hands down, my favorite drink of theirs is their Forget-Me-Hopped cider.  Now, if they could put their cider rose on tap or bring back their Christmas Cranberry, that would be a huge rival.

Do they sell any non-alcoholic drinks:  Yes, kombucha on tap.

Do they offer food: Most of the time they have a food truck.  Check out their Instagram or call to see who’s slinging food today.

Why I love this place: Because it’s damn good, that’s why.  I know, I know. I sound repetitive AF. They have ciders for all palates: they have dry ciders, a hoppy cider, a semi-sweet cider, berry-flavored ciders, a cyser, a cider-mosa, a sour, Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, shrimp gumbo, coconut shrimp, shrimp soup… Can you believe I still haven’t seen Forrest Gump in its entirety?!? But that’s for another blog post. No, no. In all seriousness and back to business, they ALSO have hard seltzer and rotating taps with new flavors they’re trying out.  It’s probably because we frequent it enough, but it’s really like Cheers when we visit- they know us by name.

Girdwood Brewing Company

girdwoodbrewing.com

 700 Alyeska Hwy., Girdwood, AK 99587

 907-783-2739

Open daily 12-8pm

 Do they offer flights: Yes

What I order: I’m currently typing this up from my dining room table as I wait patiently for my husband to come back from his evening trip to GBC to bring me back cans of my most favorite IPA in the history of ever- No Woman No Cryo.  Try it.  You will crave it nightly. It will change your life. You’re welcome.

Do they sell any non-alcoholic drinks: They brew their own nitro cold brew, the Alpen Go. It’s fantastic.

Do they offer food:  Find the most updated list of their food truck line-up here. It’s too hard to pick a favorite. Buuuuut if I HAD to, I mean, I guess it’d be Blue Ristra. Hot damn, their fried egg taco is amazeballs. Brant & I went on a Valentines Day date out to GBC and ate our weight in Blue Ristra’s food. Check out the reel I made of that outing. Not gonna lie, kinda proud of it. Just saying.

Why I love this place: Why don’t I love this place? The beer, the ambiance, the food trucks, the location (it’s freaking Girdwood, Alaska), any single one of these listed is a reason to love it. I love that their consistent core beers and rotating tap selection satisfy any beer lover’s palate.

King Street Brewing Company

kingstreetbrewing.com

9050 King St., Anchorage, AK 99515

907-336-5464

Mon -> Thurs 2-8pm // Fri -> Sun 12-8pm

Do they offer flights: YES.

What I order: 9/10 times, it’s their IPA. The other 10% of the time, it’s their dry cider. Their current seasonal pours on tap: Dark Sour, Squeezes (Cherry, Grapefruit, Lemon), Bock, Baltic Porter, Coffee Stout, Kolsch, Imperial IPA, Imperial Stout, Imperial Hefeweizen, Nitro Stout, Oaked Winter Warmer, Semi-Dry Cider, and Semi-Sweet Cider.

Do they sell any non-alcoholic drinks: Local sodas, Zip kombucha, Coke products

Do they offer food: Most of the time they have a food truck.  Check out their Instagram or call to see if there is one today.

Why I love this place: I get a little hard on anytime I eat locally and see there’s King Street IPA offered on tap. It’s freaking amazing. Buuuut, talking strictly about the brewery, aside from the beer itself and it’s location (it’s close to my house and right around the corner from ABC), I really do love their space. It’s big. I mean, really big. There will never be standing room only because it’s that big. And their rooftop seating in the summertime is perfect for Alaska summers.

Midnight Sun Brewing Company

midnightsunbrewing.com

 8111 Dimond Hook Dr., Anchorage, AK 99507

 907-344-6653

Mon CLOSED // Tues -> Fri 11am-8pm // Sat 10am-8pm // Sun 10am-4pm

Do they offer flights: YES.

What I order: Pleasure Town IPA and Sockeye Red IPA

Do they sell any non-alcoholic drinks: Rotating soda list, KBC coffee and iced tea.

Do they offer food: Yes, and a full menu at that. My favorite is their beer cheese soup and pretzel but that Smack Down sandwich though.

Why I love this place: It took a while for this place to grow on me. Granted, I wasn’t a beer drinker when I was first introduced to it and was completely turned off to the fact that they didn’t sell a damn Coke product (I’ve since broken my addiction for Pepsi and Coke products. Jesus saves.) But, DAYUM y’all, I’v seen the light. I’ve drank the juice. And is it ever a sweet, sweet juice. This place hits the spot. I love the combination of having good food chased down with real good beer and Midnight Sun Brewing Company delivers just that.

Do they sell any non-alcoholic drinks: They only sell their own products and they brew their own root beer, blueberry soda and blueberry kombucha.

Do they offer food: Usually on the weekends there is a food truck (which one, I don’t know) but they do allow for you to bring in your own food. Check out their website above or their Instagram page here to stay in the know of their happenings.

Onsite Brewing Company

3211 Denali St, Anchorage, AK 99503

907-310-2337

Sun -> Tues CLOSED // Wed -> Fri 4-8pm // Sat CLOSED

Do they offer flights: YES.

What I order: One of their current IPAs, jalapeno kolsch

Do they sell any non-alcoholic drinks: Yes, Spindriff cans.

Do they offer food: Single bags of popcorn. In the spring of 2021, they started hosting food trucks regularly- be sure to check their website or Instagram for the food truck line up. Also, it’s close to so many great local restaurants (Moose’s Tooth is just around the corner). I used to walk across the street to get fries to munch on from Table 6, but they closed their doors in 2021. Just yesterday I saw a table of patrons bring in bags of delicious looking burgers delivered by Uber Eats. So if you’re not feeling the food truck they’re hosting, you do have options!

Tent City Taphouse

instagram.com/tentcitytaphouse

 343 W 6th Ave., Anchorage, AK 99501

 907-644-8368

Mon CLOSED // Tues -> Thurs 4-10pm // Fri -> Sat 4-11pm // Sun 4-10pm

Do they offer flights: Yes

What I order: A flight of IPAs from their current draft list.

Do they sell any non-alcoholic drinks: Pepsi products, root beer, coffee

Do they offer food: Fuck yeah, they do and their food is delicious. Here’s what I’ve tried and here’s what I’ve loved: House made duck fat fries, Kase Spatzle (which is just a fancy way for saying damn good mac and cheese), hummus platter, short rib braised poutine, scallop artichoke dip, house smoked wings, downtown burger, and a parrrrrtriiiiidge in a pearrrrrr treeeeeeee. Not really but really. And that’s just a portion of their menu that I’ve tried. Go. Just go and thank me later.

Why I love this place: Because they showcase beer from all over the state through 20+ rotating kegs, offer amazing food and employ some of the friendliest staff around. If I’m going to go downtown Anchorage, I’m going to hit up Tent City. Periodt.
