Best Brunch Spots in Anchorage

In April of 2021, I raved on my stories over at Far North Fashion about a new-to-me local brunch spot and then dared my community to find me a spot better than the Rustic Goat. Below are screenshots of all of the responses that came in.

As you can see, one, my people delivered. (And let me tell you, these amazing ladies that make up my community are my people.) And, two, you see a lot of repeat suggestions on the list, don’t you?

My plan going forward with this blog post is to first start off by posting about the Rustic Goat and then as I hit up these suggested places and try the recommended dishes, I’ll continue adding to this list. So, please be patient with me and this post as it will continue to be a work in progress. Without further ado, I give you…

The Rustic Goat

2800 Turnagain St.

rusticgoatak.com

Gluten Free Options: Yes, one dish- Strawberry Coconut Parfait

Vegan Options: Hummus platter, various salads

Drink Options: Oh, you bet your fine ass they have drink options. For the sober population, they have coffee drinks. For those of you arriving to brunch hungover from the night before, they have traditional brunch drinks like Bloody Marys and Mimosas for that Hair of the Dog remedy. And for those of you walking in to the establishment still drunk from the night before, you can continue your party by ordering beer - because the have a lovely selection of craft beer that they will serve you judgement-free at 10:30 am, or so I’ve heard.

My favorite: It’s a tie between their kimchi fried rice and mediterranean hummus platter.

South Restaurant + Coffeehouse

11124 Old Seward Hwy
www.southak.com

Gluten Free Options: Yes, you can substitute gf bread or biscuits on any of their dishes.

Vegan Options: Breakfast tacos, smoothies, avocado toast, just to name a few

Drink Options: Lots and lots of cocktails, wine, a decent selection of craft beer on tap, and let’s not forget their coffeehouse next door that makes all of the delicious caffeinated drinks to order for the restaurant.

My Favorite: Not going to lie here- Not a damn thing. I will go for the ambiance. I will go for the coffee and the coffeehouse. I will go for the drink selection. But for brunch? I’ll pass. I don’t get it. South Restaurant always seems to be on a wait, especially for brunch, and this place was suggested a ton by my community, but I’ve been multiple times and I always leave underwhelmed. Maybe I’m ordering the wrong thing(s). I don’t know. What South does have for me: a great aesthetic, the best staff, delicious drinks and tapas and French Onion soup (don’t get me started on their French Onion soup, chil’). But for brunch? Again, I’ll pass.
